People, mostly, are driven by their experience, perception or emotion (not in the same order) when it comes to meeting someone for the first time. The natural human tendency is to get carried away with the who’s’ who or someone not famous yet successful while being less compassionate with someone who doesn’t belong to this league of the rich & the famous. .

 

One such league of the extraordinary people is the unorganized sector in India, primarily consisting of Electricians, Plumbers, Carpenters, Domestic Helps, Rickshaw Pullers and other similar occupation.

 

These people are mostly invisible to our eyes and we only look at them or rather look for them when we are having some emergency at home. We need their help to make our life fikr (tension) free yet we forget them as soon as they put their feet outside our door only to remember them back during the time of turbulence.

 

Though these people aren’t officially certified to carry on with the job we entrust them with, they are well skilled and experienced to perform them as precisely as required. And who says certification is required to win the hearts and minds of the customers… most of these people manage to completely satisfy the requirements of the customers and win the confidence of being called again and again.

 

But the fact of the matter is they are almost non-existent in the metropolitan life yet they are omnipresent.

 

We, at befikr.in, have decided to listen to their side of the story and make sure that the lack of opportunity early on in their life doesn’t become a hindrance for them to achieve what they deserve. We have taken this promise to unite the energy of the brigade of the unorganized sector and make them a respectful force in the society.

The Un-Organized Significance of India

 

You might go to your favourite Levis store to buy new jeans but for the fittings you would always run to your trusted nearby tailor. You might buy the most expensive chandelier from newly opened home décor shop, but when its bulbs fuse, it is the local electrician who comes to the rescue!

The point of taking you through this obviously known facts is just to bring to your notice that no matter how high-ended the consumers become, a large part of their daily lives is ruled by the unorganized daily wagers popularly known as “bhaiyas” in north India in the form of milkman, plumbers, electricians, sweepers, tailors and the list can go long.

 

To put it more technically, these all are a part of the huge unorganized sector of our Indian economy. The un-organized sector truly comprises of businesses being conducted without any enterprise formation.

 

The high levels of growth in the Indian economy during the past two decades have shown direct relationship between the informal and formal economic activities. Sustaining high levels of growth are also intertwined with improving domestic demand of those engaged in informal economy.

 

At befikr.in we have made an attempt to formalize the scattered individual skilled labour which exists around our households in form of plumbers, electricians and carpenters. Gone are the days when we could wait for 2 days for an electrician to repair the refrigerator in the June summer days. The newly emerged urban population needs everything at nick of a click and call.

Our intent at befikr.in is to connect the households to this skilled labor and save them from the inconvenience of long turnaround times, unsafe men with no background information and, service dissatisfaction.

We also offer these skilled labors the dignity of life; we turn them from ‘labourers’ to ‘professionals’. These, working independently or employed at some local electric /furniture shop have lower job security and poorer chances of growth, and no leaves and paid holidays.
